Every Gatlinburg vacation starts with the same question: where do you stay so the whole trip feels easy? Downtown is a blast for an afternoon, but plenty of us want a quiet, wooded spot to come back to, with a little something for the kids (and the grown-ups) to do without loading everyone back in the car.
That’s where Chalet Village comes in. Tucked up Ski Mountain Road above downtown, this hillside neighborhood is home to three clubhouses, a lineup of pools and tennis courts, and a short drive to just about everything on your Gatlinburg vacation list. Here’s what’s in it, how to plan around it, and where Bear FootInn, our newest cabin, fits in.
What Is Chalet Village?
Chalet Village is a wooded cabin community in the hills above Gatlinburg. To get there, you drive through downtown to traffic light #10, turn onto Ski Mountain Road, and follow it about 1.5 miles up the mountain. The roads wind, the lots are tree-covered, and the cabins range from small getaways to big-group homes.
What most first-time visitors don’t know is that the neighborhood is built around shared clubhouses. That’s the part that makes it different from a standalone cabin on a back road.
Why Chalet Village Works for a Gatlinburg Vacation
- Close to the action, not in it. In peak season, a quick trip along the Parkway can crawl. Staying up the mountain means you choose when to join the crowds and when to skip them.
- Next door to Ober Gatlinburg. Ski Mountain Road leads right up to it. Winter brings skiing and snow tubing; warmer months bring the mountain coaster and other rides.
- A short drive to the National Park. The Gatlinburg entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park is minutes away, which makes early trailhead starts realistic.
- Built-in rainy-day and wind-down options. Game rooms, tennis and a paved walking loop mean a slow afternoon doesn’t have to mean another drive downtown.
Chalet Village Amenities: The Three Clubhouses

The community runs three clubhouses, each with its own personality. The details below come from the community’s own amenities information. Hours and seasons can change, so confirm before you plan a pool day around them.
| Clubhouse | What’s There | Closed for Maintenance |
|---|---|---|
| North Clubhouse | 3 outdoor pools and 2 children’s pools, lighted tennis courts, outdoor ping pong, foosball, yard games, a paved walking trail, and concessions | Wednesdays |
| South Baden Clubhouse | 2 outdoor pools, 2 tennis courts, horseshoes, shuffleboard, a playland for kids 12 and under, a game room, a small workout room, and free Wi-Fi for overnight guests | Tuesdays |
| Upper Alpine Clubhouse | An adult pool (3 to 8 feet deep), a children’s wading pool with a cascading umbrella, and a game room with a pool table, foosball, chess and checkers | Tuesdays and Wednesdays |
Open days run 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. A few practical notes that save a headache:
- Bring your own towels. South Baden and Upper Alpine have changing rooms and showers but don’t provide towels.
- The pools are outdoors and open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, so they’re a late-spring-through-summer plan.
- Snacks are easy. Concessions and drink machines are on site, and the North Clubhouse allows outside food and drinks (no glass).
- Staggered closing days mean there’s always at least one clubhouse open. Check the day before you go.
Bear FootInn guests get clubhouse access with a guest pass that hangs on the key hook at the cabin. Keep it with you whenever you’re at a clubhouse, and bring it back to the cabin before you leave, since a lost pass carries a replacement fee.
Planning Tips for a Chalet Village Gatlinburg Vacation
- Respect the mountain roads. They’re steep and winding. In winter, 4WD or tire chains are a must, and it’s smart to double-check directions rather than trusting GPS alone.
- Pack for the hillside. Good shoes matter in a neighborhood this wooded and sloped.
- Stock up before you head up. Grab groceries in town first; you won’t want to make a second trip.
- Mix big days and slow days. Hike or ride the Parkway in the morning, then spend the afternoon at a clubhouse or back at the cabin.
Where Bear FootInn Fits In
Bear FootInn is our newest Hapey cabin, a 3-bedroom, 3-bath retreat that sleeps 10 on a wooded hillside lot in Chalet Village. After a day of exploring, here’s what you come home to:
- A private hot tub on a private deck, so a soak works in any weather
- A gas fireplace and leather living room seating for cooler evenings
- A full kitchen for slow breakfasts and group dinners
- Room for the whole crew: three bedrooms and three baths
One honest heads-up, because we’d rather you know now than at check-in: the cabin sits on a hillside, so there are stairs up from the driveway to the main level. Plan luggage and mobility needs accordingly.
Bringing the dog? Hapey is built around the Pet Paradise Promise, with zero pet fees. And like every Hapey cabin, our prices include all fees, so the number you see is the number you pay.
Your Gatlinburg Vacation, Season by Season
- Spring and summer: trailhead mornings in the Smokies, clubhouse pool afternoons, and Ober’s mountain coaster.
- Fall: leaf-peeping drives, tennis under the lights, and hot tub evenings once the air turns crisp.
- Winter: skiing and snow tubing at Ober, then home to the gas fireplace. Pack for snow and check road conditions before you drive up.
